Please support your local American Red Cross
By Becoming a Hero for the ARC

The concept is VERY simple. Individuals are recruited to raise a minimum of $1,000 through any legal means they choose. Usually, the “Heroes” who are recruited have the ability to involve their employer, church, school, or civic club to support their fund raising efforts.

“Heroes” Responsibilities:
  • Agrees to raise and/or donate a minimum of $1,000
  • Is given the opportunity to have their picture in a full-page ad in The Sun News to receive recognition for their efforts (anonymous donor requests will be honored)
  • Company name and logo on Chapter website

Report to Our Community

The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers, guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

Your American Red Cross is here in your community 24 hours a day – 7 days a week. Last year hundreds of local volunteers, 97% of the Chapter’s workforce, joined staff to meet the needs of local residents. These needs ranged from suffering the devastation of a home fire, to sharing emergency communications with military family members, learning a life saving skill or how to prevent and prepare for a pandemic flu.

During the timeframe of July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008 the Chapter:

  • Responded to 215 local disasters; largely residential fires affecting 232 families and 762 (280 were children) local residents; spending $126,192 on emergency food, clothing and shelter for local disaster victims.
  • The Chapter provided Disaster Preparedness Education to 16,881 residents.
  • From first aid, CPR, and AED training to swimming and lifeguarding, American Red Cross programs help people lead safer and healthier lives. Some 13,938 individuals learned lifesaving skills through classes offered by the chapter.
  • The Red Cross provides communication between those in the Armed Forces and their families. The Chapter provided 332 emergency connections for military families.
  • Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. Over the last year, local blood drives collected 11,083 units of blood.
  • 2008 is the 20th year the Chapter has provided Christmas Day dinner to approximately 3,000 residents who would otherwise be without food and/or fellowship on that day.
  • The Chapter, covering Georgetown, Horry and Williamsburg counties, provides an annual Christmas toy giveaway for children who lost their homes due to disaster. Last year 136 local children received gifts.
You, too, can help when disaster strikes by becoming a Hero for the ARC. Make a difference in someone’s life. Contact the Coastal South Carolina Chapter and join the Heroes Campaign today. 843-477-0020
