Myrtle Beach Air Force Base Redevelopment
Authority
Thomas C. “Buddy” Styers, executive director of the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base Redevelopment Authority, recently presented Angela Nicholas, executive director of the Coastal South Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross, with a check for $6,234. The funds were a grant to the Red Cross to pay for a heating and air conditioning system for the warehouse where disaster supplies are stored. They later provided a $3,000 grant to help run a natural gas line to the chapter for a generator that can be used during times of disaster. The Redevelopment Authority assisted with the projects as part of its ongoing effort to redevelop the air base that closed in 1993. At that time, the warehouse and two other military buildings were conveyed to the Red Cross.
