Lifeguard Training certification classes are approximately
31 hours in length. Participants must be
15 years of age on or before the final scheduled session of a course, and able to pass course prerequisites that include:

Swim 300 yards continuously using these strokes in the following order:

100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick.

100 yards of breaststroke using a pull, breathe, kick
and glide sequence.

100 yards of either front crawl using rhythmic breathing or breaststroke
-
Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object
within 1 minute 40 seconds.

Note - Lifeguard Training is provided by organizations that utilize the Red Cross Lifeguard Training Curriculum, not by the Horry County Chapter Red Cross itself. As a result, prices will vary depending on the fees incurred during the training process. A lifeguard class generally costs $200 to $300 per person.
