Thrivent Financial for Lutherans
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans of Murrells Inlet hosts a Join Hands Day each year. This year the volunteers joined forces with the local American Red Cross. The volunteers spent a total of 41 hours weeding, replacing soil in the flower beds, planting red and white flowers in the beds, feeding them plant food, watering, and covering with pine straw. The yard was mowed and the yard waste was taken to the dump.
Home Depot donated several broken bags of soil plus some perennial flowers. Two flower baskets were placed by the main doorway and a hanging basket was placed in the yard under the tree. The group stopped long enough to take a quick snapshot. The Chapter has logged more than 8,000 volunteer hours so far this year valued at more than $142,500, said Executive Director Angela Nicholas. “With close to 400 volunteers, this is just a portion of the volunteer hours that occur in our chapter jurisdiction. We have board members and other volunteers representing us at many functions and activities and often those hours do not get counted. We are very proud to have such a wonderful volunteer group. Without them, the local Red Cross could not continue its humanitarian mission to help the public prevent, prepare for and respond to disaster when it strikes.”
